Date of Swadhyaya: June 28th and July 5th
Summary Prepared by: Parag Shah
Chapter No:8
Sutra No:1-10
Summary:
sutra 1) We discussed how karma bandh happens. The reasons behind the bandh are mithyatva, avirati, pramad, kashay and yog. We discussed each of them at length.

The bandh is SANSLESH bandh that is different from normal bandh like paper and glue. Bandh between Karma and Soul makes a new state which is quite different from original nature of soul and karma. It is more like bond between hydrogen and oxygen that makes water - which is quite different from the original elements (hydrogen and oxygen)

sutra 2) The Karma Bandh happens to only living being who are with Kashaya or with Karma. Kevali do not have kashay therefore have Iryapath ashrav - do not have the karma bandh that could result in birth/death cycle.

Due to dravya karma uday (nimitta), jeev does bhav karma (kashay parinam) and makes new karma bandh.

karma and atma bandh is there since infinite time.

karma bandh splits the karma into 7 or 8 prakruti; this is analogous to eaten food make/split into blood, bones, fat, vitamints etc.

sutra 3) The karma bandh happens with 4 different attributes - prakriti, sthiti, anubhag and pradesh.

Prakriti is nature of the karma when they are active. For instance, GYANAVARANIYA Karma masks the Gyaan. SATA vedaniya karma uday provides SUKH and ASATA vedaniya karma uday provides DUKH.

Karma sthiti (time duration) can be we explained with NISHEK formation.
For instance, maximum STHITI for the MITHYATVA karma is 70 KODAKODI SAGAROPAM.

Karma anubhag (intensity levels) can be we explained with anubhag levels called SPARDHAK.

We discussed, how karma NISHEK and SPARDHAK are formed. How Karma Uday happens in the context of NISHEK and SPARDHAK. How Karma Bandh happens in terms of NISHEK and SPARDHAK.

There are 4 levels of anubhag for GATI KARMA (LATA, DARU, ASTHI and SAIL). The intensity varies from low to high respectively. ASTHI and SAIL forms SARVA GHATI SPARDHAK. LATA intensity forms DESH GHATI SPARDHAK. BAHUBHAG of DARU intensity forms SARVA GHATI SPARDHAK and AKBHAG of DARU intensity forms DESH GHATI SPARDHAK. The SARVA GHATI SPARDHAK mask the specific quality of soul completely such as Keval Gyaan. DESH GHATI SPARDHAK masks the specific quality of soul partially such as MATI GYAAN.

Pradesh bandh is about how the karma atoms associate with the soul. there is quantity and spread of the karma discussed.

YOG - decides the Prakriti and Pradesh Bandh
Kashay - decides the ANUBHAG and PRADESH Bandh.
