Clarity on Kashay

Date of Swadhyaya:10/26/08
Chapter No:6
Sutra No:5

While discussing one of the KRIYA related to CHARITRA MOHNIYA KARMA, there was a profound fact about KASHAY, that was not discussed in detail. Thought to mention it here.

There are 4 types of KASHAYA - Anantanumandhi, Apratyakyan varaniya etc. Each type has various Raag/Dwesh flavors such as KRODH, MAAN, MAYA, and LOBH.

Interestingly, within Anantanumandhi kashyaya, there could be lots of Good Parinam and lots of bad parinam. For example, someone could donate lots of money for the charity, someone can protect/save very small insects during his commute, someone can speak HIT/MIT/PRIYA VACHAN only etc. One other hand, one could be very angry and kill someone etc. This SUBH/ASUBH PARINAM does not define the Anantanumandhi kashyaya.

The Anantanumandhi kashaya can be defined as the kashyay that blocks Samyakatva. Therefore, one needs to be clear about Samyakatva for better understanding this Kashay. There are good notes in a text book, SAMYAKGYAN CHANDRIKA, chapter KASHAY MARGANA.

Similarly, within Apratyakyan varaniya kashaya there could be lots of good thoughts and bad thoughts. However, the Apratyakyan varaniya kashay is mainly blocking the SHRAVAK VRAT. i.e. One who cannot perform the SHRAVAK VRAT is due to this type of KASHAY.

We can further discuss in our next class with the text book reference.
