Date of Swadhyaya: 1 Nov. 2008
Attendees: Mahavir, Ruchi, Pradeep, Paragji, Rajeevji and more
Chapter No: 6
Sutra No: 6-7
Summary:
Sampraik Aasrav is caused by 25 actions (kriya). Many of those were discussed in the earlier class. Sharavak's Shat aavasyak's help them reduce aasrav and bandh happen at the same instant of time.

  • Upguhan aanga of samyak darshan was also discussed at length. Upguhan is about – highlighting others virtues (guna), while hiding their's vices (dosh). For oneself, it's the other way i.e. expressing vices whereas hiding virtues. It was noted that its also important to provide right feedback to fellow jains but that should be in private and most important issue is purpose – the intention of providing the feedback.
  • Intensity of Aasrav is dependent on teevra bhaav, mandh bhaav, awareness of hurting others (gyat bhaav, agyat bhaav), adhikaran and virya.
  • Teevra Bhaav and Mand Bhaav depicts the intensity of feelings and higher the intensity higher the aasrav it results in. Hence one should always understand its feeling and control excessive behavior as much as possible. In addition, Teevra bhaav could be for good cause or for a bad cause; first brings Punya karma and later brings Paap karma. For example, doing Puja with Teevra bhaav versus cutting plants with Teevra bhaav.
  • Awareness of hurting others (gyat bhaav) results in higher aasrav.
  • Adhikaran : The supporting substance for aasrav is Adhikaran. It could be living person or a material. Also, here states of substances are considered. For instance, state of Jiv are like krodh/maan/maya/lobh etc.
  • Virya relates to the capability of Jiya. Higher the capability more the aasrav. A more capable powerful person may incur more aasrav than a less capable one for the same action.
